The<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Polytechnic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0Viseu (IPV)\u00a0<\/span>has<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>taken<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>strategic<\/span> step in <\/span>strengthening<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0social\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>academic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>responsibility<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>creation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0a Pro-<\/span>Presidency<\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span>Longevity<\/span>, led\u00a0<\/span>by<\/span> Lia Ara\u00fajo.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]This initiative positions IPV as an institution committed to addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with population ageing, aligning with European and international priorities in this field.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lia Ara\u00fajo believes that Higher Education Institutions \u201cplay a decisive role in promoting quality of life throughout the life course, contributing to more inclusive, sustainable, and intergenerational societies\u201d. In this context, IPV aims to establish itself as an \u201cage-friendly university,\u201d fostering the personal, social, and professional development of older adults.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The new Pro-Presidency recognises ageing as a social achievement, while also acknowledging it as a phenomenon that requires innovative responses. Its action plan is inspired by international frameworks such as the Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021\u20132030), promoted by the World Health Organization, the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities programme, and the Age-Friendly University Global Network led by Dublin City University.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The plan is structured around three main objectives: encouraging the active participation of older adults in IPV\u2019s activities; strengthening students\u2019 awareness of the value and complexity of longevity; and promoting the engagement of the institution\u2019s retired community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To bring this vision to life, several initiatives are planned, including the development of micro-credentials for individuals aged 50+, the creation of a living lab dedicated to applied research in longevity, and the establishment of partnerships with companies and social organisations. At the same time, communication and awareness-raising actions will be promoted, reinforcing IPV\u2019s role as an agent of social change.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this strategy, the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu aims to empower older<\/span> adults, promoting their active participation in academic and community life,\u00a0while\u00a0expanding\u00a0opportunities\u00a0for\u00a0lifelong\u00a0learning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a member of the European University for Customised Education alliance, IPV\u2019s commitment to longevity also reflects a broader European vision. EUNICE brings together ten universities across Europe to develop innovative, inclusive, and personalised education models, while fostering collaboration between academia, society, and industry to address key societal challenges. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, the Pro-Presidency for Longevity aligns closely with EUNICE\u2019s mission to promote lifelong learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and social engagement.
