At a time when societal challenges, ecological transition, digital transformation, global health, and social change call for transdisciplinary responses, <strong>cooperation <\/strong>between higher education institutions has become an essential driving force. EUNICE is fully aligned with this dynamic by <strong>networking the expertise<\/strong>, infrastructure, and talent of its <strong>partner universities.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-7a2f568d\">\r\n<h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Building stronger research through collaboration<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>The strength of the alliance is based on a simple conviction: the most ambitious scientific advances emerge from <strong>international collaboration<\/strong>. By sharing skills and laboratories, EUNICE universities create an environment conducive to the development of <strong>innovative projects <\/strong>with international <strong>impact<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uphf.fr\/\"><strong>Universit\u00e9 Polytechnique Hauts-de-France <\/strong><\/a>(UPHF) in Valenciennes, several PhD candidates have been able to complete their PhD research in collaboration with other EUNICE partner universities.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two co-tutelled theses were defended:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>\u201cSurface Topography and Multiscale Complexity: A Study from Materials to Works of Art\u201d, supervised by two PhD advisors at UPHF (France) and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/put.poznan.pl\/\">PUT<\/a> <\/strong>(Poland).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>\u201cImproving Facial Expression Recognition in Realistic Environments Using Deep Learning Approaches\u201d, supervised by two PhD advisors at UPHF (France) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.b-tu.de\/en\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.b-tu.de\/en\/\"><strong>BTU<\/strong><\/a> (Germany).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>Recently, another PhD thesis was completed with professors from <a href=\"https:\/\/web.unican.es\/en\/Pages\/default.aspx\"><strong>UC<\/strong><\/a> (Spain) acting as co-supervisors. This thesis, entitled \u201cQuality in Use Evaluation of Smart Environment Applications by Agent-Based Simulation\u201d, was defended on December 11.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>All of these theses were successfully validated, enabling the supervising universities to welcome new <strong>PhD graduates <\/strong>who are experts in their respective fields.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>By joining forces, the universities of the <strong>EUNICE alliance<\/strong> demonstrate that ambitious research is built first and foremost through cooperation. Among the most structuring mechanisms, jointly supervised doctoral theses play a <strong>key role<\/strong>: they help train researchers who are fully embedded in a <strong>European dynamic<\/strong> and capable of navigating multiple scientific and cultural environments. By offering doctoral candidates shared supervision, broader access to resources, and joint academic recognition, EUNICE contributes to the emergence of a new generation of <strong>international scientists<\/strong>. This scientific richness was accompanied by an equally valuable human dimension: the joint supervision allowed me to meet people from different countries, discover other cultures and ways of working, and open myself up to real diversity.
