EUNICE Pilot Seed Funding Programme<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n

Funding of up to \u20ac10,000 per project<\/h3>\r\n

The EUNICE European University Alliance is launching its first Pilot Seed Funding Programme<\/strong>, with the official Call for Applications expected in September 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n

Rather than funding research itself, the programme supports preparatory activities<\/strong> that help researchers build strong consortia, develop joint research agendas and prepare competitive proposals for future European and international funding opportunities.<\/p>\r\n

What is the programme for?<\/h3>\r\n

The Seed Funding Programme aims to:<\/p>\r\n

    \r\n
  • Stimulate new research collaborations among EUNICE partner universities.<\/li>\r\n
  • Strengthen interdisciplinary and international research networks.<\/li>\r\n
  • Support consortium building and strategic partnerships.<\/li>\r\n
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and researcher mobility.<\/li>\r\n
  • Develop long-term collaborative research agendas.<\/li>\r\n
  • Increase researchers\u2019 capacity to participate in competitive European and international funding programmes.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

    Funding & Duration<\/h3>\r\n

    Up to \u20ac10,000 per project<\/strong>, provided as a lump-sum contribution.<\/p>\r\n

    Funding is intended exclusively for preparatory collaborative activities<\/strong> leading to future joint research proposals. It does not<\/strong> cover research costs, equipment purchases or salaries.<\/p>\r\n

    Maximum duration:<\/strong> 9 months
    Implementation period:<\/strong> November 2026 \u2013 September 2027<\/p>\r\n

    Who can apply?<\/h3>\r\n

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\r\n

      \r\n
    • The Principal Investigator (PI)<\/strong> must be affiliated with a EUNICE partner university participating in the pilot call.<\/li>\r\n
    • The consortium must include at least three researchers from three different EUNICE universities<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n
    • One institution will act as coordinating beneficiary<\/strong> and receive the full grant.<\/li>\r\n
    • Researchers at all career stages<\/strong> are eligible. Applications led by early-career and consolidating researchers are particularly encouraged.<\/li>\r\n
    • Additional EUNICE universities not participating in the funding scheme may join the consortium without receiving funding.<\/li>\r\n
    • The participation of Associated Partners, external academic institutions, industry, public authorities and societal stakeholders<\/strong> is strongly encouraged where relevant.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

      What can be funded?<\/h3>\r\n

      Funding may support activities that strengthen collaboration and prepare future research initiatives, such as:<\/p>\r\n

        \r\n
      • Consortium-building meetings<\/li>\r\n
      • Networking workshops and matchmaking events<\/li>\r\n
      • Researcher mobility and short scientific visits<\/li>\r\n
      • Travel and subsistence for partnership development<\/li>\r\n
      • Stakeholder engagement activities<\/li>\r\n
      • Training in proposal development, networking and collaboration<\/li>\r\n
      • Feasibility studies and strategic planning<\/li>\r\n
      • Development of joint research roadmaps<\/li>\r\n
      • Activities related to Open Science, impact, gender equality, diversity and inclusion, where relevant<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

        How will proposals be evaluated?<\/h3>\r\n

        Applications will be assessed competitively by an Alliance-wide Review Committee<\/strong>, composed of experts nominated by participating EUNICE universities.<\/p>\r\n

        Committee members will declare conflicts of interest and will not evaluate proposals involving their own institution.<\/p>\r\n

        Contribution to the EUNICE Mission \u2013 15 points<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

        • European added value and international dimension \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n
        • Involvement of Associated\/External Partners \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

          Feasibility of the work plan and budget \u2013 10 points<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

            \r\n
          • Budget coherence \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n
          • Work plan and timeline (Gantt chart) \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

            B. Quality of the consortium \u2013 15 points<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

              \r\n
            • PI profile \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n
            • Complementarity of expertise \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n
            • Previous collaboration or demonstrated collaboration potential \u2013 5 points<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

              Institutional balance<\/h3>\r\n

              To maximise participation across the Alliance, institutional balance may also be considered<\/strong> when recommending projects for funding.<\/p>\r\n

              Where proposals of comparable quality are coordinated by researchers from the same university, preference may be given to proposals led by different EUNICE institutions, while maintaining a merit-based evaluation.<\/p>\r\n
