Isidor Maier, researcher from Brandenburg University of Technology<\/a><\/span> (BTU – Germany) supported by Dr. Matthias Wolff, winner of this contest for his poster ‘Decomposing numerals’<\/h4>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\r\n

On 6th September, the University of Mons<\/a><\/span> (Belgium – UMONS) held the 11th edition of its annual scientific event \u201cMardi des Chercheurs\u201d (Tuesday of Researchers) for professionals of diverse research fields within UMONS and institutions nearby (including EUNICE French partner Universit\u00e9 Polytechnique Hauts-de-France<\/a><\/span>) to have the opportunity to share their expertise and present their research.<\/p>\r\n

As part of this event, UMONS organises a Scientific Poster Contest<\/span><\/a>. This year, a new category was added at this contest: the Reunice category (and subsequent award), opened to researchers from the EUNICE alliance.<\/p>\r\n

About 20 posters were submitted in this category and most of the authors participated in an online session where they were invited to present their posters and to answer questions from the audience.<\/p>\r\n

At the end of the day, Isidor Maier, researcher at Brandenburg University of Technology<\/a><\/span> (Germany – BTU) supported by Dr. Matthias Wolff, received the Reunice Award: a 300-euro voucher to fund a research mobility in one of the countries of the alliance. Maier\u2019s poster, entitled \u201cDecomposing numerals\u201d, attempts to understand how computers might understand numerals. It was praised by the audience for its original display (like a text conversation), its clarity and its original topic. The author\u2019s involvement in the online session and dedication to answer questions earned him the award.<\/p>\r\n

But, more than awards, the real purpose of the event, the first Reunice scientific dissemination event, was to promote research and to create ties between researchers of the alliance (Spain, Finland, France, Poland, Italy, Germany and Belgium). In fact, the participants were invited to present their work and meet the authors of other posters in an online session that took place via Teams, which was an opportunity to get to know other lines of research within the EUNICE research community.

About EUNICE<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

EUNICE, the European University for Customised Education<\/a><\/span> is nurtured by seven universities\u2019 intellectual and infrastructure input \u2013Pozna\u0144 University of Technology<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Poland),\u00a0Brandenburg University of Technology<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Germany),\u00a0University of Cantabria<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Spain),\u00a0University of Mons<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Belgium),\u00a0University of Catania<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Italy),\u00a0Universit\u00e9 Polytechnique Hauts-de-France<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(France) and University of Vaasa<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Finland)\u2013.<\/p>\r\n

This alliance, born from the European Universities initiative and funded by the European Commission, is building a solid network of interactions between educational institutions and other agents to work on social and economic challenges.<\/p>\r\n

EUNICE Research (Reunice project)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0was born in October 2021, funded by the EU\u2019s H2020 Research and Innovation Programme, to align research and innovation agendas within the alliance.
