The latest edition of EUNICE Start Cup, a business idea competition between students from EUNICE universities, was held in Vaasa, Finland on 24-25 April 2025. PhD student Aleksandra Makiej from the Poznan University of Technology, Poland, presented the winning idea WoundWise, a next-generation hydrogel dressing that accelerates the healing of infected and chronic wounds.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

\u2013\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0happy to receive\u00a0the feedback that my idea could\u00a0actually\u00a0become a product\u00a0that\u00a0people\u00a0will\u00a0see. I want to thank my friends for supporting me the\u00a0whole\u00a0way, Makiej\u00a0says.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The team was awarded with a \u20ac1,000 prize.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u2013 The\u00a0most\u00a0important\u00a0thing for me is not\u00a0winning\u00a0but\u00a0making\u00a0new\u00a0friends. Having\u00a0new\u00a0contacts in other\u00a0countries\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0benefiting\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0point of view\u00a0that\u00a0you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know\u00a0what\u00a0the\u00a0future\u00a0will\u00a0bring, and some day\u00a0we\u00a0can\u00a0maybe help each\u00a0other\u00a0with\u00a0projects.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

In addition to pitching, students got valuable feedback from\u00a0the jury and got to engage in an insightful workshop at the Vaasa Startup Factory.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

\u2013\u00a0Start Cup is really\u00a0great for networking and to get to know\u00a0other\u00a0students\u2019 ideas\u00a0that\u00a0can\u00a0be\u00a0from\u00a0different\u00a0field\u00a0than\u00a0mine. You\u00a0can\u00a0have a broader\u00a0perspective on innovative\u00a0ideas of other\u00a0people\u00a0around\u00a0your\u00a0age, Makiej says.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\u00a0year, there\u00a0were in total\u00a0eight\u00a0teams\u00a0participating in the\u00a0competition. SiCk\u00a0detectors<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0the University of Cantabria, Spain, came in second\u00a0place, and Moro Food Co.<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0the University of Vaasa, Finland, took\u00a0the\u00a0third\u00a0place.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Held\u00a0now for the\u00a0third\u00a0time, EUNICE Start Cup<\/a> is\u00a0designed to support\u00a0students in the\u00a0early\u00a0stages of their\u00a0entrepreneurial\u00a0journey.\u00a0Each\u00a0university\u00a0organises a local\u00a0competition and selects a team to\u00a0participate in the\u00a0finals.<\/p>\r\n
