Portuguese for Beginners A.1.2

Course content:

The Portuguese For Beginners A.1.2 course builds on the foundational skills acquired in the A.1.1 course, advancing students’ ability to communicate effectively in everyday situations. Students Will develop a deeper understanding of Portuguese gramar and vocabulary, enabling them to engage in conversations, understand simple texts, and express themselves more confidently in written form. Emphasis Will be placed on enhancing cultural awareness, with focus on exploring the diverse cultures of Portuguese-speaking countries.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Engage in short conversations about food, travel, studies, work and cultural topics;
  • Ask and answer questions related to everyday situations and personal interests;
  • Improve pronunciation and use basic intonation patterns in spoken Portuguese;
  • Understand simple spoken Portuguese in common contexts such as restaurants, transport, and social settings;
  • Read and understand short texts such as menus, signs, schedules, job ads, and invitations;
  • Write brief messages, notes, and simple texts related to daily situations and personal experiences;
  • Expand vocabulary related to food, transport, education, work, and celebrations;
  • Recognize and reflect on cultural practices and celebrations in Portuguese-speaking countries.

Objectives:

  • Develop oral communication skills to talk about food, order in cafés or restaurants, and express personal preferences;
  • Understand and use basic vocabulary and expressions related to travel, transportation, and giving directions;
  • Communicate about one’s studies, professional experiences, and career aspirations using simples structures;
  • Read and understand short, familiar texts such as menus, travel information, job ads and invitations;
  • Write simple sentences and short messages related to everyday topics like food, travel and work;
  • Gain awareness of Portuguese-speaking cultures through topics such as celebrations, holidays, and cultural practices;
  • Build confidence in participating in short conversations and performing everyday tasks in Portuguese.

2. Learning resources and tools: In the Portuguese for beginners A.1.2 course, tailored resources and tools are provided to support students’ language learning journey. Listening and reading materials are carefully selected to match the students’ proficiency level, ensuring comprehension and engagement. Worksheets reinforce language skills with content related to  everyday scenarios, encouraging autonomous practice. This supportive environment enables students to engage with instructors and peers, enhancing their learning experience and confidence in Portuguese.

  • Basic knowledge of English and Portuguese Course A.1.1
