NATIONAL LANGUAGES: SWEDISH FOR BEGINNERS

During the Swedish for Beginners course, you will learn the very basic words and phrases of Swedish in different everyday situations:

  • greetings
  • numbers – telling the time, prices
  • most common phrases connected to studying: library, lectures, exercises, seminars, official functions, socialising, life on campus
  • everyday practical situations: shopping, food, going to a café/restaurant/bar, buying a train ticket, concert ticket, movie ticket online

You will also get information about Finnish culture and society:

  • how do we talk to people (formal vs. informal)?
  • national idiosyncracies
  • Basic information about the University of Vaasa
  • History, educational system, state administration
  • Swedish in Finland

You will learn how Swedish works as a language, how to understand simple texts and find information in them. You will also get practice in listening comprehension and learn how to correctly pronounce Swedish. Moreover, you will learn about the very basics about Finnish society and culture.

  • EUNICE student: enrolled as a student (Bachelor, Master or PhD) in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check universities here).
  • EUNICE staff member: workers of any kind in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium.
  • Basic knowledge of English.
