The last week of October was filled with volleyball matches, featuring three days of sporting contests characterized by the spirit of fair play and fierce competition over the net. These days also provided students with the opportunity to integrate, meet new friends, spend quality time together, and create lasting memories for the future.

The award ceremony took place on 25 October 2023 in the sports hall of the Poznan University of Technology (Poland), attended by all the participating teams, their coaches, supervisors, and representatives of Poznan University of Technology.

The podium finishers were as follows:

  1. University of Catania (Italy)
  2. Poznan University of Technology (Poland)
  3. University of Cantabria (Spain)

After the official part, a cultural event unfolded, where students had the chance to enjoy a musical performance by Professor Brian Tomaszewski, a Fulbright scholar at Poznan University of Technology and to sing songs from the partner countries of EUNICE. Just as in sports, music brought people together, and the event concluded with a dance.

E-chess tournament

In November, it was now time for chess players to battle it out in the third edition of the e-chess tournament. In a live broadcast on our YouTube channel, audience from EUNICE universities were able to enjoy live comments by Lara Hernandez and Jan Kabzinski, two young chess players.

During this tournament opened to staff and students from the 10 parner universities, 276 games were played in total by 67 players. The three top players were:

  • Mikolaj Nowak (Poznan University of Technology – Poland)
  • Jens Schneider (Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg – Germany)
  • Ayoub Aluartassi (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France – France)

Mikolaj Nowak, winner for the second time, will receive a 320-euro voucher to fund a mobility within EUNICE countries.

The third edition of the Alliance Games has now become a part of history. It was a wonderful time, filled with joy, integration, and openness to other cultures. This marked the final edition of the Games under the name of EUNICE, but starting from November 1st, this idea will continue for the next four years under the name EUNICE4U. We hope that the tradition of sports competitions between students from the countries of the consortium will continue.
