Italian for Beginners

During this course the student will learn the very basic words and phrases of Italian in different
everyday situations:

  • greetings.
  • numbers – telling the time, prices.
  • most common phrases connected to studying: library, lectures, exercises, seminars, official
    functions, socializing, life on campus.
  • everyday practical situations: shopping, food, going to a café/restaurant/bar, buying a train
    ticket, concert ticket, movie ticket online.

They will also get information about Italian culture and society: How do we talk to people (formal vs. informal), national idiosyncracies and basic information about Sicily, the University of Catania, the town and its environment.

Self-study course on Moodle; office study with dialogues and direct interaction. Moodle lectures and assignments.
Inductive exploration of Italian grammar and lexicon. Self-reflective approach.

  • The course will be available all in once, but we requires to do one unit per week.
  • The assignments need to be passed with the minimum of 50% of the score.
