The open course “Financial Tools to Support Estuaries Restoration and Conservation Projects” addresses the financial dimension of climate adaptation, focusing on how to fund and foster the restoration and conservation of estuarine ecosystems. Students will get in touch with one of the key challenges in coastal resilience: identifying and leveraging funding sources to support nature-based solutions.
By the end of the course, students will have learnt about the types of climate adaptation and their limitations, the strategies to link coastal conservation with adaptation goals, the methods for valuing ecosystem services economically, the tools to foster and finance nature-based solutions, and the role of insurance products in sustaining estuarine ecosystem services.
This course was co-created under creative commons licence, in the ADAPTABLUES project “Adaptation to climate change through management and restoration of European estuarine ecosystems”, funded by the EU LIFE programme (LIFE18 CC/ES/001160) and developed through the collaboration of the IHCantabria, the Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria, coordinator of the project, and the University of Coimbra.
