MULTICULTURAL FRANCE: NATIONAL AND REGIONAL ASPECTS

The course Multicultural France: National and Regional Aspects aims to give an insight into diverse linguistic and cultural dimensions of contemporary France.

This module gives students the opportunity to acquire competences regarding the diverse challenges of cultural diversity.

The course consists of synchronous lessons, divided into 6 units:

  1. Nancy Huston: author, feminist and self-translator. UPHF, Stephanie Schwerter (3h), Language of tuition: English/ French
  2. What is actually speaking French? Reflections on orality. UPHF, Véronique Lagae (3h), Language of tuition: French
  3. French Songs and Transatlantic Influences. UPHF, Jean-Charles Meunier (3h), Language of tuition: English
  4. Between tradition and modernity. UPHF, Mercedes Banegas (3h), Language of tuition: French
  5. Translating French Songs: The Challenge of Linguistic Hybridity. UPHF, Paul Grundy (3h), Language of tuition: English
  6. Les variations langagières en français contemporain: messagerie instantanée, français des cités, code switching

 

Timetable:

Six sessions on Fridays (15:30 – 18:30 CEST), precise schedule available in the study guide (Programme tab).

  • EUNICE student (Master): enrolled as a master’s degree student in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check its members here).
  • Interest in linguistics, translation and cultural studies.
  • B2 level of English and French.

Study Level: Master
