NATIONAL LANGUAGES: FINNISH FOR BEGINNERS

During the Finnish for Beginners course, you will learn the very basic words and phrases of Finnish in different everyday situations:

  • greetings
  • numbers – telling the time, prices
  • most common phrases connected to studying: library, lectures, exercises, seminars, official functions, socialising, life on campus
  • everyday practical situations: shopping, food, going to a café/restaurant/bar, buying a train ticket, concert ticket, movie ticket online

You will also get information about Finnish culture and society:

  • how do we talk to people (formal vs. informal)?
  • national idiosyncracies
  • Basic information about the University of Vaasa and language-learning possibilities in Vaasa

You will learn how Finnish works as a language, how to understand simple texts and find information in them. You will also get practice in listening comprehension and learn how to correctly pronounce Finnish. Moreover, you will learn about the very basics about Finnish society and culture.
