NATIONAL LANGUAGES: SWEDISH FOR BEGINNERS

During the Swedish for Beginners course, you will learn the very basic words and phrases of Swedish in different everyday situations:

• greetings
• telling about yourself and your family
• numbers – telling the time, prices
• most common phrases connected to studying: library, lectures, exercises, seminars, official functions, socialising, life on campus
• everyday practical situations: shopping, food, hobbies

You will also get information about Swedish and Finnish culture and society:

• history, educational system, state administration
• Swedish in Finland
• Basic information about the University of Vaasa

You will learn how Swedish works as a language, how to understand simple texts and find information in them. You will also get practice in listening comprehension and learn how to correctly pronounce Swedish. Moreover, you will learn about the very basics about Swedish and Finnish society and culture.

Timetable:

• Synchronous kick-off meeting 12 February 2025 at 15:00-16:00 EET (Finnish time) online
• All assignments asynchronously on Moodle

• EUNICE student: enrolled as a student (Bachelor, Master or PhD) in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check universities here).
• EUNICE staff member: workers of any kind in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium.
• Basic knowledge of English.

• The course participants will be selected based on criteria specified in the study guide.
