Researchers from Poznań University of Technology (Poland), University of Cantabria (Spain) and University of Catania (Italia) will share their knowledge with the general public by showing them some of their lines of research

Three EUNICE partner universities will join the celebration of the European Researchers’ Night on 30th September, an event continentally spread which displays the diversity of science and its impact on citizens’ daily lives in fun, inspiring ways.

The event will take place in 25 countries and, in the specific framework of EUNICE, researchers from Poznań University of Technology (Poland), University of Cantabria (Spain) and University of Catania (Italy) will meet the general public and take advantage of this opportunity to show them some of their lines of research by on-site experiments, games exhibitions and many other activities. Thus, people will be able to interact with EUNICE scientists from different research fields in Poznań, Cantabria and Catania.

The beginning of this new academic year brought EUNICE universities a series of science dissemination events that started at the University of Mons (Belgium) with the Tuesday for Researchers, handing over to the European Researchers’ Night in Poland, Spain and Italy and, later on, to the Brandenburg University of Technology in Germany, with the Night of Creative Minds, an event that will take place on 15th October.

The Noc Naukowców, or Researchers’ Night, is the largest popular science event in the Polish region of Wielkopolska. The programme includes competitions, workshops, demonstrations and visits to laboratories. The presence of over 400 scientists from the Poznań University of Technology will be an opportunity to watch live scientific experiences such as, for example, a presentation of mobile robots or an analysis of brain reactions to popular advertising spots, based on biofeedback like facereading or eyetracking, 3D scanning and printing and many more.

During the Noc Naukowców, Reunice Project and EUNICE stands will also be present. The visitors of the event will be able to learn how mobility, learning and research is promoted among scientists and university students of the alliance, through participation in quizzes related to the EUNICE European University. The programme is addressed to participants of any age, and has always been very popular among the residents of Poznań.

The University of Cantabria is celebrating the Noche Europea de los Investigadores e Investigadoras (European Researchers’ Night) that will exhibit the research lines ongoing in UC’s departments and institutes. About 300 scientists will gather in the centre of Santander city to offer science shows, worshops, gymkhanas, quizs talks and other activities targeted to children and adults, in family or on their own. The Scientific Culture Office remarks that a series of exhibitions will take place, starting with a collaborative activity to learn how black holes work. Then, the two winning animated videos of this year’s ‘#PhDenlaUC Contest’ will be displayed and commented by the scientists involved in this projects.

EUNICE Research (REUNICE) will have its own booth to showcase its work on supporting research and interactive activities to know the opportunities this alliance and its Reunice project related to topics such as research career development, collaboration with industry and non-academic sectors, inclusivity or open science.

After two editions impacted by the pandemic, the University of Catania, among other Italian universites, will celebrate the so-called Sharper Night – European Researchers’ Night, an international event dedicated to dialogue between research and citizens. This year, a festive invasion of researchers will enliven events for all ages, which will take place not only in laboratories but also in the streets, squares and theaters of 14 Italian cities to create a unique opportunity for researchers and citizens to meet.

Inspired by the five missions of Horizon Europe (climate adaptation, fighting cancer, safeguarding the seas, promoting the sustainable and smart cities of the future, and implementing citizen science projects) the programme includes performances, concerts, tours, workshops, conferences, demonstrations and open labs, physical and digital exhibits, games and quizzes, as well as the usual online marathon. Specifically in Catania, the new edition’s leitmotif is interdisciplinarity and challenges for the future, from frontier topics in basic research to technological applications in a wide variety of fields.

The University of Catania will also add a specific booth for EUNICE and Reunice activities, giving the opportunity for researchers and students with a little background on EUNICE to participate in the name of the alliance and share their expertise with the public.

About EUNICE and Reunice

EUNICE, the European University for Customised Education, is nurtured by ten universities’ intellectual and infrastructure input –Poznań University of Technology (Poland), Brandenburg University of Technology (Germany), University of Cantabria (Spain), University of Mons (Belgium), University of Catania (Italy), Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (France), University of Vaasa (Finland), Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (Portugal), University of Peloponnese (Greece) and University of Karlstad (Sweden)–.

This alliance, born from the European Universities initiative and funded by the European Commission, is building a solid network of interactions between educational institutions and other agents to work on social and economic challenges.

EUNICE Research (Reunice project) was born in October 2021, funded by the EU’s H2020 Research and Innovation Programme, to align research and innovation agendas within the alliance. At the core of it lie the following objectives: to enhance human capital by implementing best practices, to share research infrastructures, to foster inclusivity and equality, to promote open science and cooperation between universities and other non-academic sectors.
