The University of Cantabria (Spain) held the Jean Monnet workshop on The European Universities alliances: challenges and opportunities for students on 29th November 2022 at 3 pm (CET).

The keynote address was given by Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of Higher Education at the European Commission, who explained why the European Commission is promoting European university alliances as a strategic element within the European integration project, and the ways in which this promotion is articulated.

This was followed by a round table discussion on the opportunities offered to students by EUNICE alliance. Speakers from several of the EUNICE universities addressed different topics in which they specialise:

  • Mouna Denden, from the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France. About the joint academic offer that EUNICE makes available to students.
  • Kerstin Maier, from the University of Cantabria. About the joint opportunities in terms of cultural activities, languages and global competences.
  • Cristina Satriano, from the University of Catania (Italy). About the opportunities offered by EUNICE related to the connection with companies and entrepreneurship.

The event was inaugurated by the Regional Minister of Economy and Finance of the Government of Cantabria, Ana Belén Álvarez, and the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Global Engagement of the University of Cantabria, Matxalen Llosa. It was organised by the Jean Monnet Module in Economic and Financial System and Regional Development of the University of Cantabria, with the participation of members of the ECONPOINT research group of the Department of Economics.
