INTERVIEW |
Waseem Muhammad is an international student from Pakistan currently enrolled in the Master’s programme IT4SSM – Information Technology for Smart and Sustainable Mobility – one of our excellence programme co-created by 4 universities in the alliance (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, Universidad de Cantabria, University of Vaasa, Poznan University of Technology)
In 2025, he came to France to study at Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France and pursue his studies as part of this international and collaborative programme focused on smart cities, intelligent transport systems and sustainable mobility. With a background in software engineering and professional experience in software development, Waseem represents the international and interdisciplinary spirit of EUNICE. In the interview below, he shares his academic journey, his experience within the IT4SSM programme and the EUNICE alliance, and his future academic ambitions.
1. What’s your educational background?
I’ve done my bachelor degree in software engineering. I have 3 years of experience in software development. In 2025 I came here (France – UPHF) for this master programme.
2. What’s your current master’s degree and its specific features?
I’m studying a master’s degree in computer science, called IT4SSM (Information Technology for Smart and Sustainable Mobility). It’s related to mobility programmes: how we make the smart cities, smart train and transport system.
It is a collaboration between IoT (Internet of Things) and data analysis. You can collaborate with industries because in our region, especially Hauts-de-France, it is well known for the transport system and the companies located here.
3. This programme is co-created by EUNICE partners. What makes it unique?
It is a hybrid programme. Some classes are only in physical and some classes are online. This is really good because you can collaborate with teachers from different universities.
When we go from the M1 to the M2 programme, it will be more helpful for us to find internships and do research in our fields while collaborating with teachers.
4. What are the pedagogical advantages of EUNICE?
Basically, in EUNICE there are many programmes, in computer science, communication skills, psychology, and more. There is a large catalogue, and you can choose the courses you want.
If I talk about myself, I chose interpersonal communication, which will be helpful for me in the M2 programme, when I collaborate with professors and go for an internship in a company. We learn how to communicate with people and how to communicate in the corporate workplace in general.
5. What are your plans for the future?
I am really interested in IoT (Internet of Things). Our programme is specifically related to this subject, and it is a collaboration between IoT and smart mobility, smart transport and smart cities.
I plan to do a PhD. After my master’s degree, I will apply to other universities and contact professors in other countries. Maybe I will get an offer and move there, or maybe I will stay here in France as well.
