This solution, “SiCk detectors”, was presented at “UCem” contest by Diego Rosich, who had already come in second place in the EUNICE Start Cup 2025. In addition, two other students engaged in EUNICE entrepreneurship initiatives were also awarded: Estela Molinero for “Sancantia” and Miguel Ángel de Gregorio for “U Seed”

Three students from University of Cantabria (UC, Spain) who participated in entrepreneurship activities organised by EUNICE alliance were awarded in the 22nd edition of UCem entrepreneurship competition at UC. Diego Rosich won two first prizes for its SiCk detectors project, Estela Molinero came in second place in a specific category for her Sancantia consultancy, and Miguel Ángel de Gregorio got a special mention for U Seed project.

SiCk detectors project, consisting of a solution to improve the effectiveness of cancer treatments, was proclaimed the “Best Advanced Project”, with a prize of 10,000 euros. In addition, SiCk detectors also received the “Sustainable and/or Social Entrepreneurship Award”, endowed with 800 euros, for its potential impact on medical care for oncology patients. Diego Rosich, who developed this idea together with researchers Alberto Arteche and Iván Vila, had already represented University of Cantabria with SiCk detectors at the EUNICE Start Cup 2025, the yearly EUNICE entrepreneurship contest which this year took place at University of Vaasa, Finland. Rosich came in second place, after WoundWise project, a hydrogel that accelerates wound healing, which represented Poznan University of Technology (Poland).

Sancantia, a technology consultancy specialising in social and territorial impact, came in second place of the “Best Advanced Project” category, with a 4,500-euro prize. This project was proposed by Estela Molinero, who also participated in the EUNICE E-Lab, an entrepreneurship-focused Blended Intensive Programme of which face-to-face sessions took place this summer at University of Catania (Italy).

In the “Sustainable and/or Social Entrepreneurship” category, U Seed project received a “Special Mention”, as it focuses on emotional wellbeing through plant therapy. This project already won the “e2: Student x Entrepreneur” competition, promoted by the Santander International Centre for Entrepreneurship. Also, one of its developers, Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, who is one of the EUNICE Ambassadors at University of Cantabria, was a semi-finalist in the EUNICE Start Cup 2025 and participated in the EUNICE E-Lab entrepreneurship training programme.

The UCem awards ceremony was presided over by UC’s Rector Conchi López, who stressed that “at a time of great technological, environmental and social transformations, brave ideas and people capable of anticipating, detecting opportunities and generating impact are required. And this is precisely what is promoted and recognised with these UCem awards.”
