On 2nd May 2023 the Semiology and General Medicine Unit (Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy) and the Language and Internationalisation Unit (Faculty of Translation and Interpretation) organised the event “UMED: Health is Everyone’s Responsibility”.
Around 150 students participated in the event to discuss (global) health-related topics in international and interdisciplinary teams. Attendees were given the opportunity to confront ideas and perspectives with peers from health sciences and allied health disciplines, translation and interpretation, international business and administration, applied arts, engineering and sciences. This hybrid event was hosted by MUMONS and had an international taste with the participation of students and lecturers based in Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Italy and Poland. The interactions were rich and insightful, and the exchanges challenged some assumptions on health care systems in the different countries represented:
“I took part in the event to get to know the different perspectives on health that students from other countries have and also to share my own. I learned a lot from the event and had a great time debating the themes that were proposed. Would love to attend UMED again and I hope that we all can keep contributing and collaborating on the development of health sciences.”, Artur, undergraduate student in biomedicine at Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA), Brazil
