The aim of the course on Cultures, Societies and Power (France – Europe, 1848-1945) is to examine the cultural, political and social transformations of French and European societies (Germany, Great Britain, Austria), which underwent profound changes between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries:
- political and industrial revolutions
- the development of the press
- the emergence of a leisure society based on sports and entertainment (theatre, dance, balls, café-concert, etc.)
- new relationships with the body (hygiene, spa tourism, etc.).
The two world wars will also be examined through the prism of socio-cultural transformations and their effects on populations in general and certain categories in particular (gender relations, the place of women).
