Intercultural Studies: Conflict and Communication 26-27 S2

The course is an introduction to intercultural studies of conflict and conflict mediation through intercultural communication. It introduces cultural and social theory on conflict and violence, as well as strategies for dialogue and peacemaking developed in the intercultural field. Students focus on a conflict of their choice, analyse it using intercultural methods and concepts, and present their analyses in a seminar.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. give an account of intercultural theories of conflict and conflict resolution,
2. give an account of intercultural aspects of current conflicts, and
3. use intercultural models of interpretation to analyse peacemaking and conflict management processes.

There are online lectures every Tuesday between 1 and 2.30 p.m. CET, and online seminars every second Friday, with optional time slots: 10 – 11:30 a.m., and 5 – 6:30 p.m.
