Introduction to Biobanking 26-27 S1

The INTRODUCTION TO BIOBANKING course aims to provide students with knowledge on:

  • The fundamental concepts, principles, and terminology of biobanking in an interdisciplinary context.
  • The importance of sample quality, pre-analytical variables, and standardized operating procedures in biobanking.
  • The ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks governing the collection, storage, and use of human biological material in Europe.
  • The role of biobanks in supporting biomedical research, healthcare innovation, and scientific collaboration.
  • Practical applications of biobanking in large-scale population studies, personalized medicine, and translational research.
  • The significance of biobanks as critical research infrastructure for addressing current and future societal health challenges.

The programme of the course is divided into units:

  • Module I. Introduction to Biobanking
  • Module II. Sample Collection, Processing, and Quality Management
  • Module III. Ethics, Law, and Data Governance in Biobanking

Timetable:

Asynchronous self-paced course.

  • EUNICE bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral student and academic staff: enrolled as a student or working as academic staff in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check the partner universities here).
  • Basic knowledge of biology or life sciences is recommended but not required.
  • English B2.
