Step Into Portuguese

Course content:

It aims to provide a response to foreign citizens living, studying, or working who wish to develop their language skills in Portuguese. This course certifies level A1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).During this course the student will learn the very basic words and phrases of Portuguese in different everyday situations:

  • Greetings
  • Numbers–telling the time, prices
  • Daily routine
  • Calendar: days of the week, months, seasons of the year
  • Forms of formal and informal address.
  • Most common phrases connected to studying: library, lectures, exercises, seminars, socializing, life on campus
  • Everyday practical situations: shopping, food, going to a cafe/restaurant/bar, buying a train ticket, concert ticket, movie ticket online; Spatial orientation
  • National idiosyncrasies: holidays

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the module, the student will be able to:

  • Understand and use familiar, everyday expressions as well as very simple statements aimed at satisfying concrete needs.
  • Introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know, and things they have.
  • Communicate in simple terms if the speaker speaks slowly and clearly and is cooperative.
  • Learn how to understand simple texts in Portuguese and find information in them.
  • Practice in listening comprehension and learn how to correctly pronounce Portuguese.
  • Understanding the main points of many radio and television when the speech rate is relatively slow and clear.
  • Moreover, they will learn about the very basics about Portuguese society and culture.

Objectives:

Practice of receptive skills and strategies needed to manage everyday situations in Portuguese and motivation of students to deepen their skills. To convey an understanding of culturally significant factors, products and stereotypes.

  1. Olá! Como estás? (Hello! How are you?)
  2. Este sou eu, quem és tu? (This is me! Who are you?)
  3. Primeiros passos em português! (Baby steps in Portuguese!)
  4. Era uma vez… (Once upon a time…)
  5. Preparado para falar? (Ready, steady to talk?)
  6. Uma bica e um pastel de nata, por favor! (A coffee and a custard tart, please!)
  7. Aprendemos Português na Eunice (Learning Portuguese at EUNICE)
  8. Portugal visto de cima! (Portugal from above!)

Timetable:

Live sessions on Tuedays at 15:00 CET time.

  • EUNICE student: enrolled as a student (Bachelor) in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check universities here).
