Topics on European Studies

The content of the course is articulated in four main themes which view European reality from the viewpoints of European studies, political science, international relations, culture, history and philosophy. Within these themes special lectures tackle issues of political leadership, ideology, and practice, policies, security issues, relations with the EU’s vicinity as well as with more distant actors, the origins of European integration, European identity and the Union’s values.

A special session targets the english-writing skills of participating students.

The content of the course consists of five units and 8 sub-units:

1. Europe. Institutions and basic values

• Introduction to the course. European Studies as a field of Study
• Unravelling the Union’s toolbox for defending common values

2. Europe. The political science perspective

• Toleration: Adventures of a European idea
• Modern Government Leadership in Europe

3. Europe. The international relations perspective

• Reflecting on the Fundamentals of EU Foreign and Security Policy
• European Neighbourhood Policy

4. Europe. History, institutions and basic values

• The origins of European integration
• On the identity of the European Union

5. Theme: Perfecting our English

• English-writing skills improvement

• EUNICE student: enrolled as a student (Bachelor) in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check universities here).
• B2 level of English (students are required to have a good oral comprehension of English as well as a good writing capacity in English).
