EUNICE is offering this and next week the online Summer course INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL STUDIES, the very first in the offer of the European University for Customised Education. Fifty students from six different universities are taking part in the daily online sessions, which are offered by lecturers from some of the different university partners as well.

The course, according to director Prof. Adolfo Fernandez Puente (Universidad de Cantabria), has become even more interesting than it was in previous years (this is its sixth edition), since opening it up to students from other countries has resulted in enriching the class discussions with more angles and perspectives to analyse global matters.

This week, the sessions have focused on:

  • how to analyse our reality using a global perspective, fed by recent and deep history;
  • the continuous global-local interaction altering the world that makes us see reality through different lenses and its effect in different cultures and societies;
  • import and export policies and their implications for consumers and producers;
  • the relationshio between social movements like feminism or anti-slavery and our current globalised world;
  • how economic growth and development indicators are measured from a global viewpoint.

The course continues next week with lectures that will revolve around other aspects of globalisation related to health, ecology, the role of institutions or migration.
