This university won the competition for Polish members of the European Universities in the category of ‘Cooperation with the socio-economic environment’ of the ‘European Universities as the basis of innovative Europe’ competition

Poznan University of Technology (Poland) was awarded in the Cooperation with the socio-economic environment category during the first edition of the Polish National Conference of European Universities, which took place in Warsaw, in May. This conference is a new initiative in Poland and is addressed to the national higher education institutions that are members of European Universities (European university alliances). The event is held together with a competition, which in its first edition was called European Universities as the basis of innovative Europe.

The award was granted to this EUNICE partner university thanks to its cooperation with industry stakeholders and was collected by its Rector, Prof. Teofil Jesionowski. Poznan University of Technology was also one of the 18 nominated Polish universities in the category Personality of the Year and its Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Paweł Śniatała, D.Sc. Eng., was among the group of nominees.

The conference and the European Universities

The aim of the conference was to exchange experiences and launch joint initiatives leading to the development of long-term, structural, sustainable and systemic cooperation in the field of education, research and innovation across Europe. As a result of three calls for proposals, 44 European University Alliances were selected, involving 340 higher education institutions from 31 countries, including 18 from Poland.

The European Universities initiative was presented by the European Commission in November 2017 as part of the overall vision for a European Education Area by 2025. The European strategy for universities assumes support until mid-2024 for 60 European Universities covering over 500 higher education institutions. To this end, in the current programming period 2021-2027, a record amount of EUR 1.1 billion has been earmarked under the Erasmus+ program to support European universities.

More information on the Erasmus+ European Universities initiative is available on the official website of the programme.
