Lally Carpentier, Materials Engineering student in Poland, talks about her internship mobility experience.
I applied for my international internship when I was an Erasmus+ student at Politechnika Poznańska (PUT, Poland) and was studying in the M.Sc. of Composites and Nanomaterials at the Faculty of Chemical Technology.
It was mandatory to do an internship to get my semester. I found that EUNICE had some partnerships with companies or labs that I was interested in.
I once looked at an advertisement for the EUNICE program in my faculty while looking for an internship. The process was surprisingly simple: I applied on their website for maybe two companies whose work is related to my field of study, and a few weeks later I got a positive response from ISMN in Palermo, in the South of Italy.
With this experience, I am more confident in my ability to work with a foreign crew in an English-speaking environment.
I learned a lot about different materials and how to conduct scientific research.
I liked the fact that I could work on several projects at a time and track their progress.
My two supervisors were always available to answer my questions and involved me in very interesting projects.
Embarking on this internship abroad was an adventure that not only provided professional development, but also a chance to explore new horizons, broaden perspectives, and create unforgettable memories in an unfamiliar environment.
This program in Sicily (Italy) allowed me to discover this new place, very different from what I am used to, exploring parts of the region, trying the local food or enjoying the hot (sometimes very hot!) summer weather.
Doing an internship abroad is an opportunity that allows you to stay in a place long enough to really get to know local life and do sightseeing without spending too much money, compared to tourists traveling for vacation.
I hope that EUNICE will continue to grow by involving more and more universities and other institutions.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
I am Lally, a Materials Engineering student enrolled in the Master of Science of Composites and Nanomaterials at PUT. I will graduate in September, so I will soon start working as a materials engineer.
When I have the opportunity, I like to travel to different places and countries and learn more about their cultures. I also enjoy learning foreign languages.
