European university alliances from both FOR EU1 and FOR EU2 gathered in Brussels to assess the status of research projects under SWAFS funding

EUNICE was present through its Reunice project in the Science with and for Society in European Universities alliances forum held at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, in Brussels (Belgium) on 30th November and 1st December. This event gathered representatives from European university alliances (both from FOREU1 and FOREU2 alliances) to present the results of the diverse research projects funded by the Horizon 2020 SWAFS (Science With and For Society) programme of the European Commission.

EUNICE took the opportunity to highlight some specific actions (listed below) developed within the Reunice framework. Reunice (EUNICE Research) is a project that was born in 2021 to promote cooperation between EUNICE universities and with other sectors in order to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the research activities developed within the alliance.

Highlighted Reunice actions:

  • Dealing with brain drain. It addresses the challenge of the movement of highly skilled labour between different regions and what this means for these regions.
  • HRS4R Joint Action Plan. A joint action plan was defined by the EUNICE universities in order to promote the implementation of the Human Resources Strategy for Research (HRS4R) in each institution. The HRS4R is a European Commission’s initiative aimed at improving the working conditions of research staff.
  • Artificial Intelligence Competence Centre. EUNICE universities are preparing a platform where to share Artificial-Intelligence-related competences, such as infrastructures, expertise or databases, and enriched with examples of research applications.
  • Expertise Exchange Platform. A digital platform connecting university actors with other societal actors acting as a “virtual market” place. It emcompases connecting university actors with other societal actors, and to define and pilot a digital solution supporting cross-border commercialisation activities.
  • An open science strategy (in progress). Information has been collected in order to create an open science governance model for EUNICE.
