On Friday, April 12th, the Doctor Honoris Causa ceremony was celebrated at UPHF. For this 2024 edition, the University aimed to spotlight Africa and its prominent figures.

The title of Doctor Honoris Causa, a mark of distinction bestowed by a university upon a personality who has made a significant impact in a specific field (sports, arts, sciences, literature, etc.), was conferred upon five outstanding individuals by Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF):

  • Ouided Bouchamaoui (Tunisia)
    Businesswoman – Nobel Peace Prize 2015 laureate
  • Hicham El Guerrouj (Morocco)
    High-level athlete
  • Yasmina Khadra (Algeria)
    Writer
  • Koffi Kwahulé (Ivory Coast)
    Playwright and writer
  • Manu Dibango – posthumously (Cameroon)
    World jazz saxophonist and singer

The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was posthumously awarded to Manu Dibango in the presence of his family, with a choreographic and musical tribute performed by two dancers.

This ceremony also served as an opportunity to award doctoral diplomas to the 2021/2022/2023 laureates of Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France.

EUNICE was represented through the presence of Professor Michał Wieczorowski, Vice-Rector of Poznan University of Technology (PUT), who was invited to lead the university procession, alongside Professor Abdelhakim Artiba, President of Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France.
