The latest survey conducted among 850 young graduates by UMONS’ Alumni and Professional Integration department highlighted that 90% of those surveyed have landed a job.

Over the past few years, the University of Mons (UMONS, Belgium) has experienced a steady growth in its number of students and graduates. Since its establishment in 2009, UMONS’ education programmes lead to the attainment of a Master’s, a Doctorate, or a Teaching Certification. The UMONS Professional Integration and Alumni Service conducts annual surveys to measure their professional integration rate, and the latest survey was launched in May 2023 and targeted to 850 graduates of 2021-2022 academic year, of whom 88% responded to it.

Time lapse between graduation and securing a first job

One of the most significant findings from this new survey relates to the time lapse between graduation and securing a first job. About 39% of respondents were hired before obtaining their degree. More than 19% of respondents secured a job immediately upon graduation. 30% of respondents obtained their first professional position within less than three months of job seraching after graduation.

So, 78% of respondents found employment either before or within three months of graduating.

Overall integration rate

89.5% of the respondents, who were seeking employment, were employed as of May 2023. This rate has been consistent since 2017 (except in 2020 when it was 85.6%). Among the remaining 10%, nearly 2% of respondents had obtained a contract before May 2023 and are now looking for work again. Less than 8% of the actively job-seeking respondents report that they have not yet found a job.

PhD profiles (having defended a doctoral thesis)

71 doctors were surveyed about their professional situation. Over 80% of them responded to the survey. Nearly 90% of the doctoral holders were in paid employment as of May 2023.

92% of them secured a job within 3 months following their graduation (some even before or immediately upon obtaining their degree).
