Microcredentials

Microcredentials can be used within EUNICE as a flexible tool to recognise short learning experiences, specialised courses, and skills developed across partner universities. They allow students and staff to document specific competences gained through EUNICE activities, such as shared courses, BIPs, workshops, research training, or professional development modules. By offering transparent and verifiable proof of learning outcomes, microcredentials can support international mobility, lifelong learning, and the creation of more personalised learning pathways within the Alliance.

DoxyChain Platform

DoxyChain is a digital platform supporting universities and their partners in issuing, managing, and verifying microcredentials. It enables the full microcredential lifecycle to be handled in real time – from issuing and signing documents to authenticity verification and secure storage in the student’s digital portfolio.

Based on dedicated blockchain infrastructure and its own document security protocol, DoxyChain ensures transparency, scalability, and reliable verification of digital credentials. The platform also provides legally binding electronic signature services listed in the Register of Trusted Service Providers by the National Certification Center of the National Bank of Poland.

About Microcredentials

Microcredentials are a modern form of confirming acquired knowledge, skills, and competences. They respond to the needs of a dynamically changing labour market and of people who wish to develop in a flexible, fast, and individually tailored way, aligned with their professional goals.

In accordance with the Council Recommendation of the European Union on a European approach to microcredentials for lifelong learning and employability, microcredentials certify the learning outcomes achieved through a relatively small volume of learning. These outcomes are assessed against transparent and clearly defined criteria, while the learning experience itself is focused on acquiring specific competences that respond both to labour market needs and to personal development.

Microcredentials:

  • are owned by the learner,
  • can be easily shared and transferred,
  • can function independently or be combined into larger learning pathways,
  • are subject to quality assurance in line with agreed standards.

A microcredential is proof that its holder has achieved specific learning outcomes – in terms of knowledge, skills, or competences – as a result of a short, high-quality educational activity.

It may relate, among others, to:

  • online courses,
  • teaching modules,
  • specialised training courses,
  • workshops,
  • other short-term forms of education.

Today’s labour market requires continuous upskilling and a rapid response to changing needs. Microcredentials make it possible to:

  • quickly acquire specific skills, for example in technology, management, or communication,
  • plan an individual learning pathway in a flexible way,
  • certify knowledge acquired outside the formal education system, for example at work or during industry training,
  • build a digital portfolio of competences that can be presented to employers.

As a result, the learning process can take place gradually and be adapted to individual needs and possibilities.
