As part of its educational offer, EUNICE European University launched for the first time a wide scope of language courses during the first semester of 2022/2023, open to students, lecturers and staff. Clara Consille, student at Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, and Adrianna Matuszczak, communication specialist at the Poznań University of Technology, share their common experience feedback.
At the beginning of the academic year, EUNICE started offering language courses, including eight languages: English, Polish, German, Finnish, Spanish, Swedish, Italian and French. Among the five different English courses, Clara and Adrianna chose the English Course “Tandem Language Exchange”, during which they met each other.
“I chose to follow this course to improve my English skills and to communicate with other students from European universities. What I enjoy in this course is the format: we communicate through videoconference with other students and we talk about varied topics, that we choose in advance. It allows us to connect with people and feel comfortable in doing so.
I have noticed an improvement in my English vocabulary, as it is quite different from what we are used to in more “traditional” English courses
In my opinion, EUNICE courses are well-organised and easy to access. They allow us to open up to the world and to what is offered in other European universities. I would recommend it to students, especially thanks to the diversity of courses that exist and can interest everyone.”
“My decision to take part in the Tandem course turned out to be a great decision, as I met the wonderful Clara from France (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France). Since the beginning of November, we met online every week on Thursday to talk about a topic chosen by one of us. So far, we have managed to talk about such topics as: habits, hobbies, music, transport, food waste, Christmas traditions, travels, teleworking. After each class, we made a summary and send it to our tutor to check our progress. The tutor met us at the beginning of the course and gets to know our goals for the course.
Thanks to this method, we have learned about the differences and similarities between our countries, Poland and France. For example, when discussing the topic related to transport, we talked about the most popular means of transport as well as communication exclusion.
I have chosen this course because I wanted to speak English, get comfortable with it and be able to talk to an English-speaking person. In addition, I wanted to expand my vocabulary with new words.
I highly recommend language courses with EUNICE to everyone because you can meet wonderful people as well as discover their culture and traditions. Thanks to the fact that we have the opportunity to meet people from all over Europe, we can broaden our horizons of thoughts as well as enrich ourselves with new friends that we can visit in the future. If there is an opportunity to take another language course with EUNICE, I will definitely take advantage of it to meet more people and discover more languages!”
