Professor Nicolas Gillis was awarded this European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant to fund his research team and continue to develop his project
Nicolas Gillis, a professor in the Mathematics and Operations Research Department of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Mons (Belgium), was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant for his Beyond Low-Rank Factorizations (eLinoR) project. Professor Gillis and his team will be able to consolidate their research group and to develop their career thanks to this grant, which means an important recognition for research within the University of Mons as this prestigious European grant has scientific excellence as its main selection criterion.
Professor Gillis, also recipient of several scientific awards, focuses on improving the performance of current data analysis systems by changing the way they work. It will tackle non-linear and deep low-rank matrix factorisation models. The goal will be to better understand these models from a theoretical standpoint, design new efficient algorithms, and use them on real-world applications.
