The EUNICE Board of Directors met on the 5th of June at Poznan University of Technology (Poland) to work with EUNICE Vice-Rectors for Research on the pooling of local actions, projects, mobility and other initiatives to promote joint research within the alliance. Members of the EUNICE IT group also gathered to address technical tools and IT-related improvement solutions for the consortium.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore possible joint strategic initiatives, particularly in the areas of research and possible funding sources. Discussions focused on the Alliance’s missions and visions in the field of research. This is linked to the development of research profiles for EUNICE that aligns with EU missions and objectives, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.
Potential Research Hubs
Proposals for actions to promote collaborative research were examined, in particular: joint projects and publications, mobility of researchers, co-supervision, workshops or visits. During the sessions, the opportunities and risks related to the presence of AI, in particular ChatGPT, in research were addressed. A discussion on possible CRM solutions was considered to develop a “Marketplace of Research Topics”.
The agenda of the meeting also touched on the matter of joint applications for new grants, Alliance research teams that have the potential to develop into EUNICE Research Hubs and also the possibility of involving international partners through the presence of the EUNICE European University in other European networks or initiatives. A part of the discussion was also dedicated to the national funding sources. These topics were further developed in the meeting of EUNICE Vice-Rectors for Research. This meeting, first of this kind, was an important milestone in the development of a common strategy for the Alliance’s research initiatives.
The Board of Directors meeting was also an opportunity to work on the legal and financial aspects of the EUNICE AISBL (the non-governmental organisation that is the current legal framework of the EUNICE Alliance).
In parallel sessions, EUNICE IT staff discussed how to ensure the success of the joint initiatives from a technical point of view. The agenda included an analysis of the existing IT platforms and their development path in both EUNICE and Reunice projects. The main focus was on the newly created Virtual Lab at Poznan University of Technology, its use and functionalities. As the Alliance continues to expand and undertake new initiatives, brainstorming sessions were held on possible future IT solutions related to research as well.
