14 doctoral students joined this four-week programme, first online and then on site at the University of Catania (Italy)
Sustainability and sustainable management were the topics of discussion for fourteen EUNICE European University doctoral students in the framework of REUNICE H2020 project.
Starting on 9 September and until 4 October – three weeks of remote teaching and one in Catania – PhD students from the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU, Germany), the Poznan University of Technology (PUT, Poland), the University of Cantabria (UC, Spain), the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF, France) and the University of Mons (UMONS, Belgium), together with peers from the University of Catania (UNICT, Italy), took part in the Certificate Programme in Sustainability Management, hosted by Catania.
The Certificate Programme focuses on the crucial issues of sustainable development and management. The course set up by the scientific committee (Giuseppe Inturri and Federico Vagliasindi, University of Catania) covers various fields, including environment, energy, transport, smart cities, food, innovation and digital transition, allowing participants to explore new academic horizons and collaborate with international experts.
Cristina Satriano, REUNICE project leader at the University of Cantania, explain that this concept is “a synergy between university and research designed precisely to train the European citizens of the future, preparing them to face the challenges of today and tomorrow to achieve a better future for our society”.
Participants in the programme have access to interactive lectures, workshops and face-to-face sessions with experts in the field. Sustainability is addressed not only on a theoretical level, but also through concrete practices that can have a real impact on society.
In addition, the international mobility offered by the programme allowed participants to establish meaningful connections with colleagues and lecturers from different European universities, fostering future collaborations and research projects.
A co-created programme
During the week in Catania, the course included lectures and workshops held by lecturers from UNICT (Federico Vagliasindi, Giuseppe Inturri, Rosaria Volpe, Giovanni Calabrò, Giovanni Giuffrida), from PUT (Monika Siewcynska) and UVA (Mona Enell-Nilsson) partner universities, external experts from industry (Patrizia Moschetti, ST Microelectronics, associate partner of EUNICE) and academia (Yodan Rofe, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev).
In an online connection, Mouna Denden (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France) presented the new REUNICE4u open science platform (http://reunice4u.com/), aiming to help researchers establish new international networks of research collaboration on topics of common interest.
Ana Sofia Duque (Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, Portugal) and Efthalia Chatzigianni (University of the Peloponnese, Greece), were part of the online lecture programme.
