Explore, Learn, and Celebrate Europe Days Events at EUNICE

Europe Day marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, in which Robert Schuman outlined his vision for a new form of political cooperation in Europe—one that would make war between European nations unthinkable. Celebrated in many EU countries, Europe Day symbolises a shared vision for a united Europe and reminds us of the ongoing efforts to promote peace, democracy, and cooperation among European nations.

European Film Week

From 1 to 7 May, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (Germany) showcases at the OBENKINO “The Sea is the Sky”. This poetic road movie reflects on themes of departure, hope, and humanity in times of global migration.

EUNICE On Route online escape room

From 5 to 31 May, this online escape room will be open to all audiences. Share it with your friends!

Prove that you know Europe by travelling virtually through the EUNICE countries: crack cool puzzles and answer questions about each country’s culture, entertainment, history, geography, art, literature, sports, and traditions to earn your EUNICE passport. Students from University of Cantabria (Spain) also participated in a contest on 9 May to win an Interrail pass. Watch the highlights!

Café Europa

During May, the Cultural and Community Center 7512 in Neu Schmellwitz, Cottbus (Germany), hosts “Cookies, Quiz, and Karaoke”, where visitors can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with interactive activities, discussions, and cultural contributions all centred around Europe.

E-chess tournament

The POLIBUDA CHESS CUP took place online on 18 May on lichess.org platform. This online chess tournament was open to students and staff from all EUNICE universities. Mikołaj Nowak (Poznan University of Technology, Poland), Pedro José Zambudio (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France), and Vinet Tristan (University of Mons, Belgium), won the first, second, and third prizes, respectively.

EU Intellectual Property

On 7 May, the European Union Intellectual Property Office hosts a Virtual Open Day (online, via MS Teams) for university students to discuss trending topics: discover how many trade marks you use every day, how creativity and intellectual property are linked or trainesships available at the EUIPO office…

Palio d’Ateneo

From 7 to 9 May, EUNICE students visited Catania (Sicily, Italy) to join the games and compete in various sport disciplines against Italian students from all sort of courses. EUNICE participants’ ranking: universities of Catania (Italy), Cantabria (Spain), Viseu (Portugal), Poznan (Poland), and Mons (Belgium).

Ukrainian Embroidery Day & Cottbus European Talks

On 16 May, you can explore Ukrainian traditions and customs at Puschkin Park (Cottbus, Germany) or join the discussion about the Lausitz region’s application as a “Net Zero Valley” to the European Commission, together with the Euroregion Spree-Neisse-Bober, Europe Direct Guben (EDIC), and the City of Cottbus/Chósebuz.

Speak-Dating

On 20 May, this interactive event brings people together at the Cottbus City Museum (Germany) to improve their language skills and make new connections in a casual, friendly setting.

Study and Work Abroad – fair

On 21 May, through creative and playful activities such as the escape game “Unlock your Adventure Abroad” or the EUNICE postcard campaign, students and staff of Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU – Germany) can discover the many ways Erasmus+ enables them to explore Europe and the world – whether through study, internships, or staff mobility. KLĔB A SOL Welcome Festival

On 22 May, Cottbus (Germany) hosts the “Bread and Salt” Welcome Festival, featuring a welcome dinner, chess mile, table soccer championship, and a city-wide pub and party night across downtown.

European Student Assembly

From 26 to 28 May, more than 250 students from European University Alliances such as EUNICE gather at the European Parliament in Strasbourg (France). They’re debating about topical issues, drafting policy recommendations on the future of Europe and advocating them among stakeholders and decision makers. Five students will attend this year’s edition on behalf of EUNICE, coming from Brandenburg University of Technology, University of Cantabria, University of Catania, University of Peloponnese, and Politechnic Institute of Viseu.
