Key developments and next steps for the EUNICE Alliance
Brussels, 13 January 2026
The EUNICE Board of Directors met in Brussels on 13 January 2026 at the Polish National Centre for Research and Development, where participants were welcomed by the Director of the NCBR Office in Brussels, Waldemar Dubaniowski.
The meeting focused on key governance matters, as well as upcoming academic initiatives and the next milestones for the Alliance which will keep on shaping EUNICE’s common initiatives, academic offer, and preparation for the next phases of the European Universities Initiative.
A major outcome of the meeting was the election of the new President and Vice-President of the EUNICE AISBL. The Board elected:
- Mariusz Głąbowski (Poznań University of Technology) as President and
- Maria Figueiredo (Instituto Politécnico de Viseu) as Vice-President,
with mandates running until mid-November 2026.
The Board also discussed, progress on the EUNICE governance policies, including structured consultations with the EUNICE Expert Advisory Board and the EUNICE Student Advisory Board (ESAB). Their input will be essential to refining and consolidating a shared governance framework and creating a EUNICE Constitution.
Looking ahead, the Board addressed the upcoming EUNICE events such as the EUNICE General Assembly in Poznań that is scheduled for May 2026, alongside the 3rd Conference on European Universities, co-organised by Poznań University of Technology (PUT) together with the Foundation for the Development of the Education System (FRSE). At the same time, PUT will be holding its annual initiative – Science Day – and this year’s program will include researchers from EUNICE partner universities who will contribute by presenting their current research, addressing challenges within their fields, and engaging with topics of scientific relevance with PUT community.
Finally, initial discussions were held on preparations for the next European Universities Initiative call, including the establishment of a dedicated task force to ensure continuity and support for the long-term integration of EUNICE within institutional systems.
The meeting highlighted the strong collaboration and shared ambition that continue to drive EUNICE forward.
