From 16 to 19 March, the Coupe du Mons student football tournament took place in Mons, Belgium.
For more than three decades, Coupe du Mons has been one of the most anticipated events in the student calendar at the University of Mons. What began over 30 years ago as a football tournament reserved for higher education students has gradually evolved into a vibrant week-long celebration that combines sport, entertainment and student life.
Each year, the tournament brings together teams of students from various higher education institutions for a series of competitive football matches played in a festive atmosphere. Over time, however, the event has grown far beyond the pitch. Today, the Coupe du Mons tournament offers a wide range of activities that allow students to socialise, celebrate and enjoy campus life together.
A highlight of the tournament is the popular cheerleading competition, where students showcase their creativity, energy and team spirit in colourful performances. Students also gathered around a barbecue, a much-loved tradition of the event, while taking part in a variety of fun activities organised on site.
This year’s edition also features a strong international dimension thanks to the participation of two teams from the EUNICE alliance, bringing together students from several partner institutions: Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (France), University of Cantabria (Spain), Poznan University of Technology (Poland), and Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (Portugal).
EUNICE participants also had the opportunity to engage in inclusive sports activities during their visit. Two parasport sessions were organised, allowing them to discover sitting volleyball and blind football. These activities offered a meaningful introduction to adapted sports, promoting awareness and inclusion.
A special congratulations to the women’s team from Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France for winning this year’s women’s competition, delivering an impressive performance throughout the tournament.
