Finnish for Beginners 26-27 S2

During the Finnish for Beginners course, you will learn the very basic words and phrases of Finnish in different everyday situations:

  • greetings and introducing oneself
  • numbers: telling the time, prices
  • most common phrases connected to studying: library, lectures, exercises, seminars, official functions, socialising, life on campus
  • practical situations: shopping for groceries, cooking and dining, going to a café/restaurant/bar, making new friends and getting to know them

You will also get information about Finnish culture and society: how do we talk to people (formal vs. informal)?; national idiosyncracies; basic information about the University of Vaasa and language-learning possibilities in Vaasa

This self-study course consists of five modules:

2. At the Coffee Shop
3. Student Town
4. To the University
5. New Friends
6. Course Revision Module

The activities of the course include videos, course texts, related exercises, audio/video assignments for spoken skills, weekly newsletters, as well as a final written exam on Moodle.

  • EUNICE student: enrolled as a student (Bachelor, Master or PhD) in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium (check universities here).
  • EUNICE staff member: workers of any kind in one of the universities of EUNICE European University consortium.
  • Basic knowledge of English.
