The Yunus Centre Cantabria, based at the University of Cantabria (Spain), organised the 2nd edition of the Meeting on the Road to an Impact Economy that will take place in the Spanish city of Santander from 17th to 20th July 2023. It will address how companies can directly and positively influence society and the environment, the way they get and use their economic resources, as well as the measurement of their results.

This impact event aims to raise awarenes of the need for commitment from the business sector, from society and from other stakeholders, in order to reduce poverty and to address other social and environmental problems through the promotion of social enterprises.

Yunus Centre Cantabria and impact economy

In 2019, Rector of the University of Cantabria, Ángel Pazos, signed a collaboration agreement with Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize 2006 and Professor for whom Yunus Centre was founded right after. This signing accredited the University of Cantabria as a Yunus Centre (Yunus Social Business Centre).

The Yunus Centre Cantabria is focused on raising awareness, training and researching on the concept of social enterprise by, among other actions, developing regular activities that allow the relevance of the social economy and impact enterprises to be conveyed to society. In addition, courses will be organised for teachers at different educational levels, as well as training activities aimed at university students and economic agents interested in social entrepreneurship.

Social and/or environmental impact economy seeks to ensure that economic activities have a positive impact or, at least, they minimise the negative impact on the environment. Impact economy is also concerned with reducing social differences and improving people’s well-being. All of this, within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals.
